Currently Batten and Shaw are installing the roof on the main building along with interior frame work. Temporary walls have been put up in order for the demolition of the emergency department and the call center to occur. Once demolition is completed the framing wall work will begin and follow through the rest of May. The two main focuses are the ED and the Call Center which are proposed to be completed by the end of July.

The second floor of the new Endoscopy tower will begin construction.

The temporary STAFF entrance has been blocked off due to the construction area. Employees are encouraged to use the temporary main entrance or the Women’s Center entrance at this time.

February 22, 2012

We're seeing great progress with the project thus far. The second floor slab of the addition is complete and they are now working on the forming of the second floor columns. The connector concrete slab has been poured and the steel has been erected and the decking is also complete.

Keep watching every week as we see more progress every day.

November 11, 2011

There has been a lot of ground work on the North Campus with more to come. The folks at Batten and Shaw have started to drill piers for the addition's foundation. We will continue to see this over the next few weeks. Concrete crawlspace walls and the subsurface drainage will follow. Over the next month or two we will see the formation of the concrete structure, mainly the first floor and columns.

A webcam is coming soon that will allow you to follow the progress. Keep checking back.

Paris Regional Medical Center set to begin construction on addition to the North Campus

Paris Regional Medical Center (PRMC) is set to begin construction Monday morning, August 15th on the new addition to the North Campus.

DeShong Drive will be closed and the main entrance of the hospital will be relocated to the rear of the building. Hospital and physician office traffic will be rerouted to Stone Avenue, the road located behind the hospital. Stone Avenue will be closed to thru traffic. Only hospital patients, visitors, and staff will be permitted to use it.

The construction site will block areas of the North Campus employee/staff and patient/visitor parking. The temporary main entrance will be located on the south end of the hospital on Stone Avenue. To better accommodate our patients and visitors, parking will be designated in the rear across from the temporary main entrance.

"We understand this construction project may cause an inconvenience for our patients, visitors and staff. That is why we will have signage and hospital security to assist with any parking or traffic confusion," stated Bill Porter, CEO of Paris Regional Medical Center.

PARIS REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER BREAKS GROUND ON EXPANSION TO NORTH CAMPUS
--Expansion project strengthens quality of care by focusing acute care services to one location--

PARIS, TX – Paris Regional Medical Center (PRMC) broke ground yesterday on a 31,000 square-foot expansion project that is part of the phased approach to transitioning all acute care services to the hospital's North Campus.

"We are thrilled about the expansion of our North Campus. As part of the second phase of our three-step process, the transition of acute care services to one location will better accommodate the needs of our region," said Bill Porter, CEO of Paris Regional Medical Center. "We thank the community, hospital staff, volunteers and medical staff for their support, and know this would not be possible without them."

Completion of this phase of expansion is slated for late summer 2012. The expansion will complete the transition of all acute care services to the North Campus and provide northeast Texas and southeast Oklahoma with better coordinated services and strengthened quality of care. Expansion and renovations of the facilities will encompass the following components:

  • The newly constructed building will house:
    - Outpatient imaging area (x-ray)
    - Outpatient physical therapy and occupational therapy services
    - Pre-admission testing
    - Expanded surgical services area
  • Renovations to approximately 7,000 square-feet of the existing North Campus. Including improvements to ICU, central sterile and the pharmacy.
  • Some renovations will also take place on the South Campus where some non-acute care, services are located. The South Campus will remain a vital part of PRMC by providing long term acute care, a skilled nursing facility, geriatric psychiatry and physician offices.

"The expansion and renovations will allow us to provide better coordinated healthcare services to our region for many years to come. We are fortunate to be in a position to be able to reinvest our resources into the community where it will strengthen our quality of care," said Bobby Walters, Chairman of the Board. "PRMC strives to ensure patients are receiving the best services and the North Campus expansion will offer both convenience and the highest quality of care."

The North Campus is located just off of Loop 286 at 865 DeShong Drive. The global architectural firm for the expansion project is HOK and the construction group is Nashville, Tenn. based Batten & Shaw Inc. Work on the expansion project will begin immediately.

Visitors to Paris Regional Medical Center will notice increased construction activity as we have started relocating and consolidating departments on our hospital campuses in preparation for our move North.

  • Respiratory and cardiopulmonary services have been consolidated.
  • Endoscopy has moved from the 5th floor to the newly renovated 4th floor on the South campus. This move opens the door for renovations to begin on the 5th floor of the South Campus in preparation for the relocation of Geropsych from the North Campus to the South Campus.
  • The renovations to the 5th floor will continue through early to mid-summer, at which point Geropsych will move to the South campus to make room for 16 acute care beds to be added to the North Campus.
  • Renovations are also continuing in the Emergency Room on the North campus in preparation for the increased patient load we expect on that campus when the migration of acute care services is complete.
  • Medical records is the next department slated for relocation.

The move to the North Campus took a giant step forward with the unveiling of the schematic design for the new construction. The new area, which will extend out from the front of the current facility, will house imaging (radiology) on the first floor and surgical services on the second floor. Below is the architects concept of the planned new wing.

Southeast view of new construction

Now that the architects have prepared the schematics designs, the general contractor will ask for bids for the cost of the construction. Those bids are expected to be submitted in early December.

Southwest view of new construction

In addition to the new construction, the scope of the project will include renovation to ICU, pharmacy, central sterile, registration and the emergency department.

September 24, 2010

Representatives from the hospital, architectural firm and contractor held two full days of schematic design meetings last week. The goal was to design the work flow for the spaces that will be affected by the new construction. From the information and ideas shared in these meetings, detailed drawings for all renovated and newly constructed areas will be due back on October 19. These drawings will guide the actual construction of the addition as well as renovation to select areas of the current facility. Hospital department directors and staff of the affected areas will continue to meet in the meantime to refine plans for the new area.

We have exciting news today about the Northward Bound project. Essent Healthcare's Board of Directors has approved plans for the migration of acute care services to the North Campus.

The deliberate, phased approach we're taking with Northward Bound will allow us to locate all acute care, ancillary and a variety of support service to the North Campus. More important, it will position PRMC to grow and to continue the tradition of high quality healthcare services for years to come.

As you know, the first phase of the project has already been completed - the opening of the Heart Hospital.

The next phase will include major new construction and renovation. The Northward Bound Steering Committee will meet shortly to finalize the project plan and timeline for the second phase. We will update you once those plans have been confirmed.

On April 29 and 30, all operating room services will be moved to the South Campus. Surgery must temporary vacate its space on the North Campus so that construction can begin in that area in preparation for an eventual full consolidation to the North Campus. The Operating Room team will work feverishly through the weekend and be back up to full speed by Monday, May 3. Once the move is complete, the only surgical services that will be performed on North Campus, for now, will be cardiac procedures and c-sections.

HOK, the project’s architectural and engineering firm, conducted its second round of meetings with the user groups last week. From those meetings, HOK will develop and recommend several options for the reconfiguration of the North Campus. Those options will be presented to the Steering Committee in early May for their review and approval. A final construction report, which will include timeline and cost, will be due by the end of May
March 31, 2010

HOK recently met with each of the user groups to understand their goals and to begin investigating how the design and layout of North Campus areas can support the delivery of quality care and services. The next round of user group meetings will be held April 7-9.

March 26, 2010

The Senior Transitions move has been put on hold for now as the Steering Committee reviews additional options for this program.
March 25, 2010

PRMC is committed to contributing to the health of the Paris community by maintaining its position as the leading provider of healthcare services for the region. In order to do that, PRMC must continually invest and upgrade its equipment and facilities.

Paris Regional Medical Center is currently working with Governor Rick Perry’s office, as well as with the leadership of the Paris Economic Development Corporation, the City of Paris, Lamar County Government and Paris Jr. College to obtain various state and local incentives for the Northward Bound project. These incentives are important as the hospital’s administration and board of directors make decisions that will guarantee that the citizens of Paris, Lamar County and Northeast Texas will have high-quality, leading edge healthcare services for years to come.
March 8, 2010

Before we can conduct our “main move,” there are a series of highly interrelated site preparations and individual unit moves that need to take place. The first of these centers around the relocation of Senior Transitions to the South Campus.

In order for Senior Transitions to move, a number of other reconfigurations and transitions have to occur. The preparation for this move gives an idea of the complexities involved with our overall undertaking.

First, Cardiopulmonary Services has been relocated to the 4th floor of the South Campus, where they are open for business today in rooms 401 to 407. Next, renovations will begin in the area on 4th floor vacated by Cardiopulmonary. Endoscopy will then move into that area until their final move to the North Campus. Once Endoscopy relocates, renovations will begin on the 5th floor, South Campus in preparation for the Senior Transitions (Geropsych) program, which is slated to move in early June 2010.

Click here for a timeline graphic that describes the steps leading up to the relocation of Geropsych.
February 12

With the State’s approval of the architectural plans, Senior Transitions is one step closer to its move to a permanent home on South Campus’ 5th floor. Next, PRMC will request bids from contractors for the project.

In order to make room for the geropsych unit, Endoscopy will temporarily move to the 4th floor in the current Cardiopulmonary space. Cardiopulmonary will move down the hall to rooms 401 to 407 in the next couple of weeks.
January 29

Senior Transitions to move first. Because of State requirements for certification, inpatient gerospsych will be the first unit to relocate. The architects have completed their evaluation and will be submitting plans to the State next week in preparation for the unit’s proposed move.

To make room for Senior Transitions, Endoscopy will also be relocating. The Steering Committee is looking at several options, but a final decision has not yet been made on where it will move.

January 15, 2010

User Groups. The User Groups, the “workhorse” teams of the move process, begin meeting this week. The work of the User Groups is critical to move process, as they are responsible for ensuring their assigned area will thrive in a new environment. Each group is comprised of a Team Leader, an Administrative Champion and a core team of clinical and support members tasked with a particular functional area. Other ad hoc team members can be called in to assist the team as needed.

The first task of the User Groups will be to conduct an assessment of the clinical and non-clinical equipment.

Choosing an A&E Firm. PRMC will be sending out Request for Proposal (RFP) documents this week to multiple Architectural and Engineering firms for the project. The firms will have three weeks to send proposals back to us. The Steering Committee will narrow the firms to two and ask them to make formal presentations to the group. The entire selection process will take four to six weeks to complete.

At the December 18 meeting of the Northward Bound Steering Committee, the group adopted its Charter. The Charter outlines the Committee’s purpose, goals and membership. Click here to read a PDF of the Charter document.
